Lyttelton Port is the South Island’s largest international trade gateway, facilitating the movement of goods and supporting the economic sustainability of the region. The reclamation of 24 hectares of land at Te Awaparahi Bay will provide Lyttelton Port Company with the space it needs to enable expansion of the Port’s facilities to meet future forecast growth in customer export and imports.
Reclaiming land can have effects on the environment, both during construction and in the longer term. We have provided ongoing strategic environmental policy and planning advice, along with project management capability to help mitigate the potential environmental effects of the reclamation within Whakaraupō/Lyttelton Harbour.
Our knowledge and expertise, complemented by input from our wide network of technical associates, has been critical to the success of all stages of the project from consenting through to construction.
The Te Awaparahi Bay reclamation forms a vital part of Lyttelton Port’s post-earthquake recovery. Our work on this project is helping create a resilient, efficient port, that contributes positively to the wellbeing of Whakaraupō/Lyttelton Harbour, the surrounding communities, and the wider Canterbury region.
